Thanks to Mark Jones for this report.

On Wednesday 22nd of March,

Coleg Cymoedd RL Academy hosted Bristol Bulldogs(SGC) at the Centre of Excellence, Ystrad Mynach. Bristol had many players unavailable but to their credit they still fulfilled the fixture with a weakened squad. The fixture saw many Ironmen RL players pitted against each other in our only real derby game in the College Premier League. Bristol started well with Fraser Stroud controlling the game they kept possession for over 10 minutes and scoring two unanswered tries. Cymoedd continued to make mistakes but eventually scored with a well work try for Liam Silver, followed closely by an individual opportunist score from newcomer James Quick who looks a great new talent. Bristol continued to exert pressure through good field position scoring another two tries, Brandon Wiegold replied for Cymoedd but the visitors went in at halftime with a well deserved lead 20-16.

After a stern chat from their Head Coach, Cymoedd came out firing on all cylinders and scored three unanswered tries through Morgan Cochran, Archie Snook and Dewi Billingham taking the score to 36-20. Although Bristol were down a player, they continued to compete and were rewarded for their endeavor with a close range try but missed the conversion 36 – 24. Jac Morris was destructive throughout for Cymoedd with many line breaks and overloads which created tries. Playing with confidence and good shape, Cymoedd started to move the ball wide and Morgan Knight and Connor Morris scoring out wide on the two next possessions to put the game out of site. On the final play Liam Silver went over for his hattrick and rounded off a fine second half performance. Final score 58 -24.
