THUNDER ON THE HORIZON

After a free weekend South Wales Ironmen are back in Kingstone Press League 1 action this Sunday when they welcome Newcastle Thunder to the Wern Sports Park for a 3:00pm. Whilst a first win of the season still eludes the Ironmen they will be buoyed by a two-point defeat last time out away at York City Knights which suggests a first win is not far away.

Head Coach Phil Carleton was philosophical about the defeat. “ It was certainly a game of two halves. The sooner we forget the first 40 minutes the better. The second half saw a vastly improved performance and I felt we deserved at least a point. In fairness to York they had done all they needed too. Hopefully we’ve raised a few eyebrows running them so close. We know we aren’t too far away from what others consider a shock result but what we see as natural progression. Newcastle were in a similar position to us 36 months ago. They’ve really kicked on so it will be a good test for us.”

The Ironmen have a late season ticket offer of just £75 for all remaining games and includes a free replica shirt. Full details on the website www.ironmenrl.wales
