Oxford put in a good performance for the second time in seven days as they dominated the second half in Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday beating South Wales Ironmen 38-18.

There was little separating the sides at half-time but it was a different story after the interval as Oxford scored 20 unanswered points.

Kane Riley scored the opening try, splitting open the Ironmen defence to ground in the corner. Scott Fleming missed the kick.

Ironmen were soon level. They won a scrum inside Oxford’s 10 metre line and from the third tackle of the resulting set, Shaun Owens powered over. Paul Emanuelli converted to give them the lead.

Oxford regained the advantage on 15 minutes after Josh Atkinson took advantage of a loose ball on the Ironmen goal-line.

A moment of magic gave the advantage back to Ironmen. Yannic Parker caught a cross-field kick and scored in the same movement. Emanuelli converted well and they were 12-8 up.

Again Oxford hit back when Casey Canterbury dived over from close range. Fleming converted to put them 14-12 up.

Stuart Biscomb used his strength to add another for Oxford to make it 18-12 but Fleming couldn’t land the conversion.

The Ironmen couldn’t get going in the second half and Oxford led again six minutes into the period through a breakaway try from Atkinson that Fleming converted.

Then London Broncos product Daniel Hindmarsh-Takji took advantage of a loose ball to extend the lead.

Callum Windley sprinted over on 64 minutes to put the game out of reach. Fleming converted to make it 34-18 to the visitors before Marcus Brooker nabbed a breakaway try to put the icing on the cake.
